It is currently mandatory in certain sectors, especially in contracts with the public sector, where platforms like FACe (Facturae) are used. However, with the Crea y Crece Law (Law 18/2022), this system will be extended to all companies and freelancers, aiming to improve efficiency, combat tax fraud, and ensure the traceability of operations.
Mandatory Electronic Invoicing and Verifactu
The regulation stipulates the progressive implementation of electronic invoicing in the private sector:
- Companies with an annual turnover exceeding 8 million euros must adapt to the system before December 31, 2025.
- The rest of the companies will have until December 31, 2026, as the final deadline.
However, due to the absence of technical regulations that outline the details for registering electronic invoices on the Spanish Tax Agency’s website, a six-month delay is expected:
- Companies with a turnover of more than 8 million euros: new deadline until June 30, 2026.
- The rest of the companies: extended deadline until June 30, 2027.
